Day 20 – 20 years of Democracy & a walk to vote

We woke to a sunny start at Montusi Mountain Lodge. Montusi offers peace and tranquility in a gorgeous setting with uninterrupted views of the Amphitheatre. After a delicious breakfast we met our team of happy voters and made our way along the MTB tracks through the Wanhoop Farm.

It was hot in the valley and the climb out meant the children needed a few sweets and lots of encouragement to reach the tea stop. We were met on the other side of the valley by the Piccione’s who run the Berghouse Cottages and we were treated to tea, coffee, refreshing mint & lemon water, homemade banana bread & the most delicious biltong muffins. The cottages are set up high on the hillside with extensive views and the added cycle tracks make this is another wonderful getaway in the Northern Drakensberg.

We had a steep climb following tea and then we meandered along the top of the hill, reaching the tippy-top of Rammelskop before heading straight down to our voting station in the Langkloof Village. We cast our votes quickly and we were then collected by the cattle truck and dropped off at the Tower of Pizza for a late lunch. This is definitely the best spot for pizza in SA!

A great day. Great walking, great friends, great eats & treats and a true celebration of 20 years as a Democracy.
