Daphne and Dave were at The Cavern Resort in the Drakensberg recently to do a quick trip around our Khanyisela Project crèches and pre-schools. They took the opportunity to issue jerseys, hats and mittens which were knitted and sent to The Cavern Resort & Spa by the Rotary Club of Retford. The weather this time of year in the Drakensberg can be chilly in the evenings so any donations of this sort are much appreciated. If you are staying at accommodation in the Drakensberg you are more than welcome to drop of your donations at The Cavern for distribution into our local Drakensberg community.
Work on an extra classroom at the Drakensberg Siqalakahle Pre-school will soon commence. We were pleased to see that the security fence has been completed by a member of our Drakensberg resorts. Projects of this sort are much needed in our Drakensberg area and we are thrilled that Drakensberg accommodation is helping us with funding and building expertise.
The Samukelokuhle pre-school keeps growing and they need an additional classroom. Thanks to a grant from the Drakensberg Municipality this should soon became a reality. This school, which was the first one we build 4 years ago, continues to go from strength to strength and is without a doubt our model school and one that all the other schools should emulate. We hope that the children leaving pre-schools such as these have the right learning foundations to uplift our Drakensberg area. Accommodation in the Drakensberg will then in the long run be able to benefit from an improved skills base.
In most of these Drakensberg crèches we could see a definite improvement in the implementation of the play and learning activities that the teachers are learning at the Early Childhood Development courses they are attending.
We look forward to our next visit to the Drakensberg towards the end of July. No doubt we will take advantage of one of the accommodation resorts in the Drakensberg.
