Dear Friends
Our Big5Hike weekend has happened and all seems to have passed very quickly! We are enormously grateful to each and every one of you for the support.
Our weekend raffle winners were Brian McLintock and Anne Fraser. They have each won 2 nights for 2 in a superior suite including all meals, teas and guided morning hikes at The Cavern. We look forward to welcoming them soon!
Megan Hilburn was our top individual fundraiser bringing in a total of R12 500. Moya, our faithful hound, impressed many with her blonde look, strapping legs and incredible energy and together with her corporate donation she has raised a total of R18 270. Stephen Kirker was awarded a bottle of bubbles for his impressive Big10Hike. It is the collective effort that has been the most amazing.
We have sat down, counted the Rands, totalled the expenses and we are thrilled to announce a profit of R453 000! Wow. R250 000 of this will be invested and slowly we will begin building an education fund for the future.
What has been achieved is huge. A glimpse of what is possible and a way forward is slowly being uncovered. Whilst the work will never end, we do look forward to the future with great hope. Education being the key force in creating a more equal society with opportunities for all.
Some Big5Hike facts: 5 peaks, 18kms, 3 fun stops, 65 hikers including the Dads, oldest 77 years, our youngest 9 years, one pregnant mum-to-be, 37 ladies, 28 men, 1 faithful hound, 22 sherpas, R349 000 raised by hikers, 22l of powerade consumed, 80 sandwiches munched, 10 bottles of bubbles sipped and millions of snaps taken.
May the happiness infiltrate your heart, may the hope inspire you today and may you be ready for the next challenge!
With love, thanks and best wishes, Megan & Georgie
